Guwahati the “City of Eastern Lights” stand on the Southern bank of river Brahmaputra. It is capital city of Assam and gateway for the entire north-eastern states.
From Guwahati to Nameri we will cross Tezpur, “City f Love”. It is situated in te northern banks of river Brahmaputra. The ancient name of Tezpur was Sonitpur, the kingdom of legendary King Baan Raja. Tezpur holds in its heart many ancient historical events and witnessed many legends and mythological wars of ancient Assam. The occurrence of a famous war named “Hari-Hara” is related with the attainment of the present day Tezpur. The battle led to the bloodshed of sp many soldiers that entire place was stained with bllod and hence the name Tezpur came into occurrence. (“Tez” means blood and “Pur” mean place in Assamese language).
Nameri National Park is situated in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and covers an area of about 200sq kms stretching on both banks of the Jia Bhoroli River. The parkis identified with its rich diversity of flora and fauna. It consists of Semi-evergreen vegetation, most deciduous forests and open grasslands along with 600 species of flora It is famous for Asian Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Clouded Leopard, Leopard, Indian Bison, Gaur, Himalayan Black Bear, Capped Langur, Civet Cats, Indian Wild Dog etc. Winged Wood Duck, Great Pied Hornbill, Black Stork, Ibis Bill, Blue Bearded Bee eaters are some of the species of birds found here.
Day 2: Nameri National Park
In the early morning, enjoy a full day guided trekking inside the dense forest of the Park along with an armed guard. Evening free for relaxation. Overnight stay in Jungle cottage.
Day 3: Nameri National Park
In the early morning, go for a full day birding and photography tour inside the park. Evening free for relaxation. Overnight stay at Jungle Cottage.
Day 4: Nameri – Pakke Tiger Reserve
Pakke Tiger Reserve is famous for Bengal tigers as the name suggests. Beside that more that 40 mammel species are found in the reserve. Three large cats - the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard and clouded leopard share space with two canids – the wild dog and Asiatic jackal. Among the herbivore species, elephant, barking deer, gaur, and sambar are most commonly encountered. The commonest monkeys are the Rhesus macaque, Assamese macaque and the capped langur. In addition, PTR is home to as many as sixteen species of viverrids, weasels and mongooses. Commonly seen in pairs is the yellow-throated marten. At least 296 species of birds have been recored here, including the globally endangered white-winged wood duck, the unique ibisbill, and the rare Oriental bay owl. PTR is a good place to see hornbills. Roost sites of wreathed hornbills and great hornbill can be observed on the river banks. Birds seen in Pakke Tiger Reserve include: Jerdon's baza, pied falconet, white-cheeked hill-partridge, grey peacock-pheasant, elwe's crake, ibisbill, Asian emerald cuckoo, red-headed trogon, green pigeon spp., forest eagle owl, wreathed hornbill, great hornbill, collared broadbill and long-tailed broadbill, blue-naped pitta, lesser shortwing, Himalayan shortwing, Daurian redstart, Leschenault's forktail, lesser necklaced laughing-thrush, silver-eared leiothrix, white-bellied yuhina, yellow-bellied flycatcher warbler, sultan tit, ruby-cheeked sunbird, maroon oriole, and crow-billed drongo.
At least 500 species of butterflies are found here. Beside these numerous types Orchids can be seen here.
After reaching Pakke Tiger reserve, full day jungle activities. Evening free for relaxation. Ovenight stay at Jungle Camp.
Day 5: Pakke Tiger Reserve
Early in the morning enjoy full day bird watching and photography in the Reserve. Evening free fro relaxation. Overnight stay at Jungle Camp.
Day 6: Pakke Tiger Reserve - Guwahati
After breakfast check out of the camp and proceed towards Guwahati. You will be transferred to Guwahati for your onwards journey.
